What Zelnick actually said
Speaking to Variety, the Take-Two CEO was precise on timing: "The next few weeks I don't think it'll be summertime yet, but when it's summertime, Rockstar expects to start marketing GTA 6." He placed the campaign start at calendar summer, from June 21. The prediction was accurate: preorders opened June 25, 2026, four days after summer began.
It was the first time an executive had framed the campaign start so clearly. Every date the community floated before (May 12, 15, 21) rested on theories. This came from Take-Two leadership directly.
Why late June: the pattern confirmed
At Rockstar, a big game's marketing almost always opens with a trailer. At Take-Two, preorders open in step with that campaign launch. Crossing Zelnick's statement (summer) with those patterns, the window pointed to late June. That is exactly what happened: preorders opened June 25, the first day of the predicted range.
Trailer 3 and preorders: the same moment
On the May 21 earnings call, Zelnick had already confirmed preorders, which opened June 25, 2026. Everything points to Trailer 3 and preorders landing together: the trailer is the commercial kickoff. And the PC version?
Take-Two's official release table lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. No PC date has been announced. Rockstar is following the GTA V pattern, which reached PC about 18 months after consoles. A PC version is likely, but later.
